GO Girls are working hard to ensure all women with gynaecological cancers receive the support they truly deserve on what is often a lonely and difficult journey with survival rates still very low, particularly for those with ovarian cancers. Meet our trustees.
Hilary Maxwell
CEO & Chair
With a nursing career spanning 16 years, including several roles as Matron, Hilary is currently a Gynae-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust. She previously worked for BBC North and was Director at a GP Practice responsible for change, transformation and people management. Her charitable experience includes establishing the Jill Dando Fund with radio and television presenter, Nick Ross and working as Executive Director at The National Endometriosis Society (now Endometriosis UK). Passionate about improving the lives of women with gynaecological cancers, she co-founded GO Girls in 2015, to ensure all women and their families receive grass roots support at every step of their difficult journey. She is also a regular speaker on the international conference circuit on women’s health and gynaecological cancers.
She is a member of the British Gynaecological Cancer Society (BGCS) & Chair of the Nursing Sub-Group

Siobhan Griffiths
Head of Communications
Siobhan is a senior corporate communications and marketing consultant with over 25 years’ experience. She has devised strategic programmes and directed high profile public health campaigns for a range of healthcare charities, NHS hospital and primary care trusts and private healthcare organisations. Having obtained a BSc degree, she is also a qualified homeopath who specialises in working with people with cancer and is passionate about prevention and early diagnosis. She spent seven years working as a volunteer for the Paul D’Aria Cancer Support Centre and is an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Medicine.
Sharon McCartney
Trustee
Sharon - the girl who cycled India for us and raised over £2000.
Sharon is a qualified nurse, qualifying in 2007. She began her career as a Specialist Theatre Practitioner, working with our CEO and Chair, Hilary, at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. Followed by further qualifications as a Health Visitor, completing her degree in Specialist Community Health Visiting at Manchester University in 2012, she now works as a Triage Nurse for the out of hours GP Service in Macclesfield.
Sharon is a campaigner at heart . When she saw GO Girls were planning a charity cycle ride to India she re-connected with Hilary and their adventures re-began. Sharon is very committed to promoting and contributing to the work of the GO Girls.
She is skilled in standing up for others. As a Unison representative which involves representing and supporting members with employment disputes, she is used to "fighting for the underdog".
Additionally, she is a nurse prescriber and has volunteered as a Nurse and Team Leader in Lourdes on a Pilgrimage from 2005 until 2015
Alastair Maxwell
Treasurer
A highly accomplished and versatile IT project management professional, with over 30 years’ experience in the insurance sector. Alastair works on change programmes and manages defect deliveries, delivering to time and budget. He is also responsible for meeting industry Regulatory and Compliance governance. In addition, he brings his excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build positive relationships to GO Girls.
Jessica Mills
Trustee
In the process of becoming a lawyer, Jessica has played a pivotal role in assembling and guiding several businesses on a multitude of levels that assist in promoting ethical, social and industry standards. Alongside providing hands-on support to businesses, Jessica is a founder of charity Bona Fide, where she established and drove forward the ‘Beyond Bluewashing’ initiative, to bring public attention to the unethical corporate world and its effects on society. In addition, she has published many academic journals, articles and law reviews in the area of business law, as well as encouraging corporate philanthropic encouragement. Jessica is a keen advocator for causes close to her heart, one of which is related to GO Girls, as she is passionate about propelling forward awareness on these overshadowed cancers that impact many globally.
Becky Lewis
Trustee
A PR and marketing professional with almost 15 years’ experience developing and implementing successful communications plans at all levels from large corporates
and well-known high street brands to small businesses and start-ups.
Trained by former BBC journalists, Becky began her career in 2008 before setting up her own PR consultancy in 2011 during the global recession at age 24.
Becky is also highly experienced in top-level reputation management and crisis communications.
Becky is looking forward to doing everything she can to help the charity with its mission and make a difference to the lives of those with a gynaecological malignancy
Peter Hardy
Trustee
Peter Hardy is a lawyer and partner with the firm Addleshaw Goddard LLP.
Peter was born and brought up in the north east of England and went to school in Newcastle upon Tyne. He studied law at Cambridge University and became a solicitor in 1991, initially with Macfarlanes in London and then, from 1996, with a predecessor firm of Addleshaw Goddard based in Manchester. He became a partner in the firm in 1999 and moved back to London in 2000 where he has worked ever since. Peter specialises in property development work, particularly in health facilities, educational accommodation and (in recent years) residential accommodation.
He was for a number of years the head of Risk and Compliance at Addleshaw Goddard and is a member of the firm’s Board.
Peter is married to Anne, who is currently a mature student studying for a Classics Masters, and has two grown up children, Rebecca and Sam, who are both civil servants, plus a cat. His interests when not working include history, photography, films, arts and architecture.
