"Blistering heat didn't deter GO Girls! supporters as they set off to scale Golden Cap in the Cap2Coast 2018 GO Girls! Challenge in a huge fundraiser to support women with gynaecological cancers.

Fifteen youngsters from the U16 Lyme Regis Football team
left at dawn to complete a 9 mile walk rising to the top of Golden Cap before
descending to Charmouth followed by an uphill walk back to Lyme Regis Football
Club. Not deterred by the challenging trek in the GO Girls!
Cap2CoastChallenge, and with little rest, the boys' team took on the Seaton U16
Girls in their own World Cup play off.
Beth Gillan, who co-ordinated the event and who was only diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year said "I cannot believe how many people have supported us. I know how much the GO Girls! supported me when I needed that support most, so to have that reciprocated by family, friends and local businesses is very humbling - we cannot thank everyone enough".
Patrick Robinson, actor, best known for his roles as Jacob
Banks in the Bill and Ash in Casualty was there to support the event too.
He posed for photographs with spectators to help boost the fundraising and also
played in goal to support the Seaton U16 Girls.
The men's Lyme Regis Football Team also took on the Seaton Ladies in a gripping match with the home team, Lyme Regis, narrowly winning in a penalty shoot out. Spectators were fed and watered by Beth's Army who supplied hot dogs, burgers, Pimm's and cakes. There were also many prizes to be won in a huge raffle, including a luxury hamper created by GO Girls! vice chair, Teresa Wolff.
Hilary Maxwell, Chair of GO Girls! said "11 women die every day from ovarian cancer and survival in ovarian cancer has not improved in the last 20 years. We know what women say they want most is support, support from others in the similar situations to their own - we aim to give that support with our unique blend of advice, support and hugs to everyone who has a gynaecological cancer. We now have nearly 750 members from across the UK and we are growing all the time".
Steve, Beth's husband, who was also instrumental in the managing the event, added "We plan to make this an annual fundraiser for GO Girls! It had huge appeal and we were blown away by the considerable support we received to make the event such a success ...we are now looking forward to planning 2019's event...after a little rest. We have raised just over £2,500 and next year, we intend to top that and we hope more and more people will participate."
GO Girls! support women with gynaecological cancers and have recently been raising £50,000 to fund a GO Girls! consulting suite as part of Dorset County Hospital's Cancer Appeal, to bring extended cancer services, including radiotherapy, to those in the west of the county. GO Girls! are supported by their patron, comedienne, Helen Lederer.#cap2coastchallange2019 #biggerbetter
