Mr Adam Rosenthal - Consultant Gynaecologist and Associate Clinical Professor

Adam Rosenthal PhD FRCOG is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at UCLH, where he directs the Familial Gynaecological Cancer and Colposcopy services. His clinical interests are gynaecological and anal pre-cancers, colposcopy, laparoscopic surgery and inherited (familial) gynaecological cancers. He is also the Clinical Lead on the UK Familial Ovarian Cancer Screening Study and Medical Director of the Avoiding Late Diagnosis in Ovarian cancer (ALDO) project. A past member of the UK Cancer Genetics Group Steering Committee, he has published extensively on screening for gynaecological cancers and their molecular biology, in journals including the Lancet and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He is a medical advisor to various charities, including the Eve Appeal and Ovacome. An acknowledged expert on inherited gynaecological cancer, Adam has given interviews on TV and radio on this specialist area.

Charlie Gourley graduated in Genetics and Medicine from Glasgow University in 1991 and 1994 respectively. From 1998 to 2005 he trained in Medical Oncology at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, during which time he was awarded a PhD in ovarian cancer genetics (Edinburgh University) and an NHS Education for Scotland Clinician Scientist Award (2004). Charlie was appointed Senior Lecturer in Medical Oncology at the University of Edinburgh Cancer in 2005, Reader in Medical Oncology in 2011 and Professor of Medical Oncology (Personal Chair) in 2012. He received a Scottish Senior Clinical Fellowship Award in 2010. He became Director of the Nicola Murray Centre for Ovarian Cancer in 2016 and Clinical Director of the Cancer Research UK Edinburgh Centre in 2019. He is the current chair of the Gynaecological Cancer Intergroup (GCIG) Translational Committee and is a member of the Scottish Medicines Consortium and the German Cancer Aid Scientific Review Committee. He previously sat on the Scientific Evaluation Committee, Institut National du Cancer in France, the Cancer Research UK Experimental Medicine Expert Review Panel as well as the Commission on Human Medicines Oncology and Haematology Expert Advisory Group.

Charlie is active in ovarian cancer clinical trials. He was UK lead for the SOLO1 trial which led to the first line licence for olaparib in BRCA mutant ovarian cancer and for the recently reported GOG281/LOGS trial of trametinib which is the first ever positive randomised controlled trial in low grade serous ovarian cancer. He sits on the trial management group of a number of UK ovarian cancer trials including ICON9, CENTURION and PEACOCC. He provides leadership on the translational aspects of these studies as well as commercial studies such as PISARRO and PRO-105.

Professor Gourley’s translational research focuses on genomic characterisation of ovarian cancer in order to facilitate the discovery of biomarkers of ovarian cancer drug sensitivity and resistance. Current priorities include whole genome sequencing of ovarian cancer tumours from across Scotland in order to improve patient selection for PARP inhibitors and exomic sequencing of low grade serous ovarian cancers from patients recruited into the GOG281/LOGS study in order to improve patient selection for MEK inhibition. His lab group includes two postdoctoral fellows, one senior scientist, three PhD students, a data manager, a tissue collector/processor and a scientific officer.

Professor Crosbie graduated as the top performing woman student at the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 1997. Following her pre-registration house jobs, Professor Crosbie began her career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a Senior House Officer at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. In 1999, she moved to Manchester to work at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research and Saint Mary’s Hospital as the Joseph Starkey Clinical Research Fellow under the supervision of Professors Peter Stern and Henry Kitchener. In 2002, she was awarded a PhD in Gynaecological Oncology by the University of Manchester. Professor Crosbie returned to full time clinical training as a Senior House Officer and then Specialist Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the North West in 2002. In 2006, she successfully gained Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. In 2008, she became a Walport Clinical Lecturer in Gynaecological Oncology, combining subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology with research. In 2013, Professor Crosbie was awarded an NIHR Clinician Scientist Fellowship and became a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology at the University of Manchester.
Mr Jonathan Lippiatt - Consultant Gynae-Oncology Surgeon

Ranjit Manchanda (MD, MRCOG, PhD) is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Barts Cancer Institute, QMUL, and Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at Barts and the Royal London Hospital.

Ranjit’s research interests are focused around population based germline testing and precision medicine approaches for risk prediction, stratification, and targeted screening & cancer prevention. He has a keen research interest in health economic issues related to his areas of research. He is the Principal Investigator on the PROTECTOR trial (salpingectomy for ovarian cancer prevention in high-risk women), PROMISE Pilot study (Feasibility of population-based risk prediction and stratification for targeted ovarian cancer screening and prevention), GCaPPS trial (RCT on population based BRCA testing in the Jewish population), and SIGNPOST study (evaluating outcomes of germline panel and somatic tumour testing in ovarian cancer). He leads the Barts Women’s Precision Medicine and Cancer Prevention Team and chairs the Barts Health Gynae-oncology trials group. He is co-Lead for the Cancer Prevention Theme at the Barts CRUK Cancer Centre. He is a member of the NCRI Ovarian Cancer Surgical Sub group, and a number of other advisory bodies and oversight committees. He has served as President of the European Network of Young Gynaecological Oncologists (ENYGO) and member of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) Council from 2011-2013. He has a strong interest in training in gynaecological oncology and led a number of training initiatives in and outside Europe. He is a member of the International Gynecological Cancer Society (IGCS) Education Steering Committee and BGCS International Subcommittee. He is the Integrated Academic Training Programme Director for North Central and North East London, London Specialty School of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Mr Lippiatt is a consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist. He completed the general training programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and then did a further two years subspecialising in gynaecological cancer. His training was largely at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff; during which time he was also appointed as a clinical lecturer for Cardiff University and obtained a Doctorate of Medicine for his research into HPV and cervical disease. Mr Lippiatt was the first British subspecialty trainee to undergo a robotic surgery training fellowship in the UK. In his first year as a consultant at Poole Hospital, Mr Lippiatt set up an advanced laparoscopy service to treat endometrial and cervical cancer. This has meant less pain, quicker recovery and far shorter length of stay in hospital. This has improved even further with the introduction of a robotic surgery service to the women of Dorset and the surrounding area. Mr Lippiatt now routinely treats endometrial and cervical cancer patients using the very latest state of the art surgical robot. He is a founding member and co-chair of the robotic implementation group at Poole hospital. He is also on the council of the British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecologists and a member of the Society of European Robotic Gynaecological Surgery. Mr Lippiatt is involved in several research projects including being Principal Investigator for a large surgical trial for endometrial cancer. He is an Associate Professor at St Georges Medical School, Grenada and regularly has students from Grenada as well as Southampton and King’s medical schools.
Gordon Jayson - Professor of Medical Oncology

Professor Jayson qualified in Medicine at the University of Oxford and then completed his general medical and oncology training in Manchester. Having completed a PhD in heparan sulphate and angiogenesis, he took up a Senior Lecturer position in 1997 at The Christie and The University of Manchester, specialising in ovarian cancer and angiogenic drug development. He has led or written numerous phase I-III ovarian cancer trials. Taking up a Chair in Medical Oncology in 2005, he has served on Cancer Research UK's New Agents Committee, the Medical Research Council's Drug and Device Development Committee and the National Clinical Trials Committee.

Professor Jayson is now Chair of Translational Research for the Medical Research Council ICON7 and chairs Manchester Cancer Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy Board, developing a strategy for systemic therapy across Manchester. He has written over 190 publications and has attracted tens of millions of pounds of grant income, focusing on ovarian cancer and angiogenic drug development.

Miss Dandawate specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1999 with honours’ and was awarded a Gold medal for best outgoing Registrar of the Year in India, She is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with a special interest in gynaecological oncology, major gynaecological surgery, colposcopy, acute gynaecology and early pregnancy. As a highly skilled surgeon, she is the pioneer in starting an enhanced recovery pathway for gynaecology surgical patients which has had a huge impact on patient recovery and satisfaction. Miss Dandawate has been conducting outpatient hysteroscopies and manages early cancer cases and is currently the only private female gynecologist in Dorset.

Helen qualified as a nurse in 1997.  She currently works as a Macmillan Gynae-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist  at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, where she has worked since July 2017. She provides information, advice and support to women and their families  with gynaecological cancers from diagnosis, through treatment and palliative care.  In collaboration with the medical and nursing staff, she monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and patient outcomes. Prior to her current role, Helen had 8 years' experience with the surgical oncology team. 

Hilary Maxwell

With a nursing career spanning 16 years, including several roles as Matron, Hilary is currently a Gynae-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust. She previously worked for BBC North and was Director at a GP Practice responsible for change, transformation and people management. Her charitable experience includes establishing the Jill Dando Fund with radio and television presenter, Nick Ross and working as Executive Director at The National Endometriosis Society (now Endometriosis UK). Passionate about improving the lives of women with gynaecological cancers, she co-founded GO Girls support group in 2015, to ensure all women and their families receive grass roots support at every step of their difficult journey. She is also a regular speaker on the international conference circuit on women’s health and gynaecological cancers.   

Mr Ioannis Biliatis

Mr Biliatis is a consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist.

He graduated from the National University of Athens in 2003. He underwent his postgraduate medical training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Alexandra Teaching Hospital, in Athens.

Following this, he completed three years of fellowship in gynaecological oncology at Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre, Gateshead followed by advanced subspecialty training in gynaecological oncology at The Royal Marsden Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London.

Mr Biliatis has been working as a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at University Hospitals Dorset ce June 2016.

Mr. Biliatis has been actively involved in research in the field of Gynaecological Oncology and has published papers in respected scientific journals including editorials for the British Medical Journal. 

He specialises in complex radical surgery for advanced and recurrent ovarian and peritoneal cancer. He is also an expert in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery for cervical and endometrial cancer, as well as in fertility sparing and more conservative surgical options for cervical cancer, like trachelectomies

Dr Gail Busby

Consultant Gynaecologist
Saint Mary's Hospital, Manchester

Dr Gail Busby has been a consultant gynaecologist for 13 years and a doctor for 26 years. She qualified in Trinidad in 2006. She then underwent specialist training in the Northwest of England and obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2002. 

She is a lifespan gynaecologist, seeing patients of all ages from birth through to the menopause. Her special interest is Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology and she started, and still leads, the tertiary referral service in Manchester for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology. 

She has a keen interest in education and holds a PGC in medical education. She is also committed to patient education and hosts a health podcast entitled 'I forgot to ask the doctor', aimed at educating patients about health conditions across the spectrum of medicine.

Dr Hannah Pierce

Hannah graduated with distinction from Keele University in 2015. Her first job as a doctor was in  gynae-oncology and that's where her passion for the speciality began. In 2017 she became an  Obstetrics and Gynecology teaching fellow at Keele university and also completed her Masters in Medical Education. 

She then moved to the Wessex Deanery in 2018 to start her Obstetrics and Gynaecology training which she is currently completing. She has continued her role in education and has just been appointed to a simulation fellow post where she designs and implements new training initiatives for O&G trainees. She became a member of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2022 and plans to continue working towards becoming a consultant gynaecologist. 

Rhea Crighton RN (Adult) BSc (HONS) MSc NMP

Rhea is a Masters qualified Registered Nurse with 12 years’ experience working in the NHS in a range of settings. She also has first-hand, lived experience of cervical cancer and living with the long-term and late effects of cancer treatment. 
 
Her areas of specialist interest include: cancer treatment pain; late and long-term effects of cancer treatment; pelvic radiation disease; radiation induced lumbar plexopathy; chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy; patient perspective and lived experience; patient involvement; qualitative research; advanced clinical practice; and independent prescribing.
 
She is currently Lead Gynaeoncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – Northern. She has previously been Clinical Matron for Cancer Services, Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – Northern and has also worked for Northern Devon Healthcare NHT Trust, Kings College Hospital NHS Trust, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Queen Victoria NHS Foundation Trust.
 
Rhea is Guest Lecturer for Independent Prescribing and Cancer Care Modules at the University West of England and is a Member of PRDA UK Medical Advisory Panel.
