Being Together in Dorset

Hilary Maxwell

I work as a gynae-oncology clinical nurse specialist. I trained at Christie's in Manchester in 2001 and whilst much has changed in terms of treatment for women with ovarian cancer in that time, very little has changed with regard to diagnosis.

We all know that early diagnosis is likely to improve survival yet it is not uncommon for my patients to be Stage 3 before they are diagnosed, where the disease has already metastasised, is incurable and life is limited. This is a very tough and lonely journey for these women and their families.

At GO Girls along with some other fabulous charities we work closely with Ovacome - The Ovarian Cancer Support Charity, The Eve Appeal and Target Ovarian Cancer we are all campaigning very hard with very little resources to try and bring the disease and its symptoms to the fore.

We have worked tirelessly on this (we have no Government support - let's hope this could be corrected) and we won't stop until Teal is the new Pink.

We must give greater credence to ovarian cancer and its devastation. Treatments are tough and survival is often still limited.

If you would like to talk with GO Girls Support Group please email us at hello@gogirlssupport.org - we are hungry to help - thank you.

Let's stop this dreadful legacy of late diagnosis and poor survival.
