Charity Challenge Raises Thousands

Supporting GO Girls 2019

Cancer charity, GO Girls, were thrilled to receive an early Xmas present from local law firm, Porter Dodson.

Porter Dodson’s Bridport Office chose GO Girls as their annual charity and have been busy throughout the year running a number of fundraisers to bring their total gift to GO Girls to over £2000. Hilary Maxwell, Chair of GO Girls said: “It’s been a great year working with Porter Dodson. This is a significant sum from a very small team. We both wanted to ensure the funds raised support an area of gynaecological cancer health and prevention. This sum will support our Cervical Cancer Prevention campaign to be released in January 2020 – an area where we know we have reached a 20 year low in screening and HPV vaccinations are not always being taken up a key preventer in developing the disease”.

Amy Mowlam at Porter Dodson said, “As a mostly female team in Bridport we wanted to challenge ourselves, believing passionately that we should raise the profile of gynaecological cancers. Women going through treatment will face many challenges themselves and it was a small price to pay to push ourselves for such a great cause.”

Both Amy Mowlam and Stephanie McCulloch took part in the Wimborne 10 as part of their fundraising. “This really was quite tough”, said Stephanie. “I never thought I could run 10 miles, never, but we did it. When the going got tough, I kept thinking it was nothing compared to cancer treatment”.

Olivia Reed and Tom Elliott were both at the presentation. Olivia and Tom are working with the charity to support IT development to expand the ability of women to access much needed support.

Both Amy and Stephanie said “GO Girls have been an incredible charity to work with. The passion for their work is infective, they bring energy and fun and are incredibly supportive: we’d hope many other local firms will support their work in the future”.

Porter Dodson support a number of good causes annually. Scott Bowley, partner at Porter Dodson added “Supporting great local causes is something we, as a firm, believe passionately about: it has been an absolute pleasure to help GO Girls in their incredible work.”

Lots of laughter along the way

When Symonds and Sampson lost a dear staff member to ovarian cancer, the partners wanted to do something to help. Their choice was obvious. They knew the GO Girls had their own big challenge ahead of them to raise £50,000 and knew how much their own employee had been helped in an incredibly difficult time of their life - so with many cakes and much more they raised in excess of £3,000 for the GO Girls fund.

Nissan, Dorchester

Motoring with Nissan

It was great to have the Nissan’s support at the 2018 County Show. This is Dorset County’s seminal annual event and attracts a huge number of visitors, both local and from further afield. The GO Girls raffled a luxury hamper and count the jelly beans for the younger visitors. With 2 days hard graft, GO Girls raised over £800 which supported the final push to the £50,000 target for the Cancer Appeal.

Captain’s Drive

Captain of the Ladies Team for Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club, Jane chose GO Girls to be her charity of the year. She felt urged to highlight a group of cancers that she felt were falling behind in terms of exposure, available information and a supportive network – everything GO Girls stands for. Jane said “she applauded GO Girls for pushing forward and inspiring others around the country”. The fundraising began with the Captain’s Drive In where club members guess where the drive is going to finish up by sticking a peg in the ground. This was followed by a series of events and raffles held throughout the year, culminating in the Charity Day. Thank you Jane and your fabulous team.
